"How I improve my English" by Alba Muñoz
Nowadays, it is a really repeated question: What can I do to improve my English? And that is why today I will show you my favourite tricks and the way I practise them.
As an active person in language learning terms, and after seven years of studying english, german and french I have only discovered a universal truth: reading is the best way. I am sure that every single person interested in language learning has ever heard about it. You must read, you should read, you have to read... But at the moment of truth, no one helps you to narrow the wide world of reading and you may get lost. My advice to you concerning in choosing your reading is to adapt it at every level. Even if you are not reading a book, you spend the whole day reading adverts, instructions, in your electronical devices... That is why if you are trying to improve your English, you should start changing the language on those things, and you will see how it goes. As another daily thing, I would recommend you to read the news in English, as there are many spanish newspapers that develop their own version in English, online and free. About reading books, this big unknow for many, it is essential for you to know that there are many other kinds of books appart from novels, you can find bibliographies, cookbooks, self-help, scientifics, travel books... In summary, adapt English at every level of your life and find this thing that you can read in your free time and makes you enjoy.
If you have reach the level of wondering how can you improve your english, you must know already that there are four basic competences in language learning: listening, reading, writing and speaking.
By reading, we would have covered the parts of reading and writing, so let's continue with the two left ones.
Speaking and listening are two competences that usually work together. As reading is a typical in writing and reading, watching series and films in English would be the typical recommendation on the oral and aural parts. But there are many other means that can help you. One of my favourite ones has to do with music, and had helped me a lot in hearing issues. One of my favourite websites is Lyrics training, in which you can complete the lyrics of a song while listening to it. As it would be in real life, but choosing your favourite songs and having fun at the same time. Another recommendation with music, is to listen to a song you like many times and try to guess the meaning, and then check it in a translated lyrics website, such as Letras en Ingles, in the one you can compare the original lyrics in english with the translated ones. As far as the speaking part concerns, the two parts mencioned above are also really important, but the most important thing is to practise. There is no thing as travelling to a english native speaking country and get involved in their culture and language. Find the way that most fits you, taking in account all the possible options, as grants, working there, special programs to people interested on this and many others.
To conclude and as a conclusion, my last recommendation would be to give your best and put your interest in the thing that you are doing or trying to learn, and you will see the rewards sooner than you can imagine.
